The Time of the Writer 2020, which runs in Durban, South Africa from March 16-21, announced its first guests on January 20, 2020.
The Time of the Writer, a literary festival organised by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts, returns to its traditional home of Durban, South Africa this March. The festival which has hosted some of the most iconic names in African and world writing will be running for the twenty-third consecutive year which is quite rare in African literature.
The festival organisers have announced some of the writers who will be attending this year’s shindig on the coast of South Africa. These include journalist and award-winning author Fred Khumalo whose latest offering is The Longest March; award-winning novelist and short story writer Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi whose books include Kintu (2014) and Manchester Happened (2019); storyteller and short story writer Keletso Mopai whose debut short story collection is If You Keep Digging (2019); award-winning novelist Nozizwe Cynthia Jele of Happiness is a Four Letter Word (2010) and The Ones with Purpose (2018); novelist and short story writer Remy Ngambije whose debut novel is The Eternal Audience of One; sociologist and novelist Shafinaaz Hassim whose latest offering is The Economics of Love and Happiness (2019); and literary critic, novelist, short story writer and playwright Siphiwo Mahala whose latest book is Red Apple Dreams (2019).
