The Tilembe Literary Festival 2017 will be hosting its second edition at the Foxdale Court in Lusaka, Zambia from September 6-9.
The Tilembe Literary Festival got into the African literary scene with a blast last year as they run a seris of events in its base of Lusaka, Zambia. That festival which was highly praised was headlined by Malawi writer and publisher Shadreck Chikoti.
The festival is set to light up the Southern African nation’s capital with activities like readings, performances and even masterclasses. Some of the guests of this fledgling festival include Moffat Moyo Joseph Simukoko, Roy Clarke, Mulenga Kapwepwe, Chilufya Chilangwa, Ngosa Chungu, Dr.Kachinga Sichizya, Henry Joe Sakala, Peter Langmead, Becky Ngoma, Kapalu Mutenda, Amadeus Musumali, Mwanabibi Sikamo, Kafula Mwila, Benny Blow, Duncan Sodala, among many others.
One of the more looked out for masterclasses will be run by Ruth Simujayangombe Mwenya, the Zambia Reprographic Rights Society CEO who will teach aspiring authors some of the legal issues about writing your book. You will learn to navigate the legal hurdles of publishing with emphasis on issues like copyright of images and graphics, copyright of text and music lyrics and registration of your copyright. You will also know what you can expect from the taxman.
There is also a masterclass that helps you get your publication from idea to publication. This includes a guide on what it takes to publish your manuscript and many more questions around the publishing industry will be discussed in-depth. This masterclass will be led by Katarina Zeravica and Dario Chongolo. Katarina is a writer and editor and has been flying her literary flag in Lusaka as Keti Editorial Services for the last six years. Dario has published eight books which include Picking a Fight, The Game Changer, Mwana Okongola among other. He has helped other writers publish their work too.

There will be a celebration of World Literacy Day on September 8th as part of the festival events.
LITERARY QUIZ NIGHT
It won’t be all work as there will be fun to be had as well with the literary quiz night. There will be a night where people can answer questions with literary leanings at Foxdale Court. Teams of not more than five will compete against each other over a number rounds. If you don’t have a team but would still like to take part, the charge is K50 and you will be assigned a team at the quiz.
As you can see it will be an action packed few days in Lusaka for those who will be available. If you can, please make a plan to attend.
