The Biggest Text Book Centre opened at the Sarit Centre, Nairobi on November 19, 2019.
The Text Book Centre was established in 1964 by Bachubal Shah and Meneklal Rughani as a simple bookshop selling textbooks and stationery. Since then it has evolved from to become one of the most trusted book supplier for schools, various smaller bookshops, NGOs, Accelerated Mobile Press (AMP), stationers, supermarkets, higher learning institutions and corporate entities with six branches.
The bookstore unveiled its latest store, a flagship of the brand, at a new wing at the Sarit Centre which has hosted it for many years. Approximately 20,000 square feet, the new store is equipped with all modern facilities of a contemporary retail store and focuses on making experiential shopping accessible to school children, parents, students, professionals, and corporate clients.
‘‘As we expand within the country to better serve the devolved county structures, our key focus is to become the leading bookstore in the East African region and eventually a Pan-African powerhouse in the bookstore space,’’ noted Text Book Centre Group Managing Director, Armand Houahu.
The all-inclusive store will cater to all ages and cements Kenyan culture through; a kid’s section; art gallery showcasing Kenyan art; lounge section where customers can relax and read books or even host book clubs; and a modern IT section where customers can get to have a look and feel of new technologies on sale as well as gaming devices.
The store was opened by Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Professor George Magoha whose escalator entrance weirdly enough reminded us of the entrance of US President Donald Trump when he was announcing his candidacy for that office in 2015. Also at the event were many leading personalities in Kenyan publishing.
