Do You Dream Of Terra-Two, the Science fiction Young Adult debut by Temi Oh, is now available for your reading pleasure.

While science fiction writing by Africans isn’t new, in the last few years it has started taking centre stage in the African literary scene. A genre that was thought by some to belong to others has been owned by many Africans and Africans born in the diaspora. This growth has seen a rise of a new award scheme that includes science fiction writing called the Nommo Awards.

We here at JamesMurua.com were introduced to Temi Oh, a writer of Nigerian origin with a new Sci-Fi book called Do You Dream Of Terra-Two. Oh was born in London, to Nigerian parents and received an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh in 2016. Her new book describes the journey of ten individuals, four veteran astronauts and six teenagers on a journey seeking a new world. The book’s blurb describes it thus;

“A century ago, an astronomer discovered an Earth-like planet orbiting a nearby star. She predicted that one day humans would travel there to build a utopia. Today, ten astronauts are leaving everything behind to find it. Four are veterans of the 20th century’s space-race. And six are teenagers who’ve train for this mission most of their lives. It will take the team 23 years to reach Terra-Two. Twenty-three years locked in close quarters. Twenty-three years with no one to rely on but each other. Twenty-three years with no rescue possible, should something go wrong. Something always goes wrong.”

The novel, which has received rave reviews from a teenager I live with, was published by Simon & Schuster in the UK on March 7, 2019.  You can read an excerpt here.
