The Tanzanian Book Week Festival 2022 runs in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha, and Tanga from October 11-15, 2022.
The Tanzanian Publishers Association (PATA) initiated National Book Weeks to promote books and the reading habit in Tanzania in 1988. The first National Book Week Festival, organised in collaboration with other book sector organisations, had activities like an exhibition of publishers and booksellers from inside and outside Tanzania, seminars, workshops and cultural activities. The first five festivals were held in Dar es Salaam. The sixth also included eight regions of Tanzania. After the sixth, the newly formed National Book Week Committee took over organising the festivals.
The Tanzanian Publishers Association has announced that the 2022 edition of the festival will happen in mid-October with the following statement;
The Publishers Association of Tanzania (PATA) in collaboration with booksellers, writers, librarians, other organisations promoting literacy are organising a Tanzania Book Week Festival. The festival will include the Tanzania International Book Fair to be held in Dar es Salaam. Regional activities will take place in three library centres in Dodoma, Arusha and Tanga.
The activities that will be held at the Regional centres include a book exhibition and a children’s reading tent. Dar es Salaam will host the Tanzania International Book Fair. Other activities include children’s reading tents, professional skills workshops, book talks, book launches, and author meetings.
It is expected that through these activities a book reading society will be created that will transform the social, economic, and cultural development of Tanzanians through enhancement of literacy for poverty alleviation.
This festival will be celebrated annually.
