The Writivism Festival 2014 happened last week in Kampala Uganda and was very well received by folks from the literature business. Saaleha Idrees Bamjee was the winner of the Writivism short story prize this year which gave her Uganda Shillings 1,000,000/= (Kshs33,333) for her story Out of the Blue. If you read the story you will be struck by the protagonist Mariam and her search for a child and the drama that involves. And that weird water scene yawa!

Saleeha, Idea Girl (her words not mine), isn’t just about winning writing awards but is also a very good photographer. She compiled her experience of the whole festival on this link Days 1 and 2, Writivism 2014, Kampala and on this one, More from Kampala and Writivism. If the writing thing doesn’t work out there is this whole photography thing to fall back on.
