RadioBook Rwanda launched at Goethe-Institut Nairobi on Thursday, December 13, 2018.
RadioBook Rwanda is an international collaboration aimed at producing short stories by contemporary Rwandan writers both as podcasts and beautiful pocket-size print editions combining new art and writing. It is a collaboration between Huza Press from Rwanda, Kwani Trust from Kenya and No Bindings in the UK to produce short stories by contemporary Rwandan writers both as podcasts and beautiful pocket-size print, editions combining new art and writing.
The first of the RadioBook Rwanda publications would be seen at a launch featuring one of the writers Annick La Reine Shimwa as well as two of the featured artists Nduta Kariuki and Jessica Atieno. The panel moderated by Aleya Kassam was rounded out by Kwani Trust Editor Otieno Owino.
The evening started with Elizabeth Wichenje the Head of Library and information at the Goethe-Institut Nairobi welcoming the audience then leaving Aleya Kassam to continue with proceedings. Kassam, despite confessing that she had a cold, would masterfully lead us through the evening. She asked Annick la Reine Shimwa to read from her contribution and we got to know more about the story’s protagonist. The artists took us through the process they went through both in this publication and their art in general. Otieno Owino on his part explained how the organisation he represents went about bringing this publication to light.
