Prix Makomi 2023 winners announced in Kinshasa.

The winners of Prix Makomi 2023 were announced at a ceremony in Kinshasa, DR Congo on Saturday, February 5, 2023.

The Prix Littéraire Makomi is a manuscript prize created by the Pôle Eunic-RDC in order to promote the Congolese literary sector and to bring out new talents in 2017. It is organized annually as part of the Fete Du Livre De Kinshasa with support from the Delegation of the European Union in the DRC. Previous winners have been Éric Ntumba. Eddie Tambwe, In Koli Jean Bofane, Maggy Bizwazwa, Laurent Kasindi, Jean-Claude Ntuala, Didier Mumengi, and Isidore Ndaywel.

The winners for 2023 were announced at the closing ceremony of Fete Du Livre De Kinshasa. They are;

Fiction

  • Noire est la couleur de la moisson, Baby Mapanga
  • Implacable Kinshasa, Marc Kanyinda  

Poetry

  • Parole solaire pour ressusciter le Congo, Priscilla Mapendo

Theatre

  • 30 ans de confinement, Archip-Joseph Mukoko Ngondo

Marc Kanyinda said, “I’m very happy and it’s the fruit of the work, but also a form of predisposition to write. I am attracted by great writers like Victor Hugo or Guy de Maupassant who formed me through their writings and this allowed me to produce quality texts, especially since I am attentive to the facts that take place in our society.”

Each of the book winners gets $2,000 while those in the other categories get $500. In addition to a trophy, each of the nominees receives a diploma of merit, a one-year subscription to the Wallonia-Brussels Library and to the media library of the French Institute of Kinshasa.
