Poet Mufasa was the featured artist at the Books and Wine series at the Ki.chen, Senteu Plaza, Nairobi on December 6, 2019.
Books and Wine Kenya is a Nairobi-based community of book and wine lovers who meet regularly to explore and discover some of the best wine and books from around the world. The series was founded by Wendy Marube; some will remember her founding the Text Book Centre Book Club while working for the biggest book store chain in East Africa.
A Books and Wine event typically has those who attend sample a selection of wines, directed by someone who knows quite a bit about wine, while they discuss the texts of choice. This month, wine lovers were led by Caroline Mukami as they tasted Stonedale Chenin Blanc, John B Rose, PG Chardonnay/ Sauvignon Blanc, and PG Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon. All the first three are white wines and the last one was red. After sipping, sniffing, swirling in the mouth and more, the last in our opinion went down the best.
There was a treat for those who attended the event this time round as there was a guest artist in Poet Mufasa. Mufasa, who launched his debut poetry collection Raising A Sun in July, is one of the most respected poets in this city thrilling audiences at events around our metropole. The poet and his colleagues Lucas on vocals and Tony on keyboard gave a performance that went down quite well with the crowd at the event. You can watch a bit of that performance recorded below;
As the audience members had their fill of the wine, the poet was led in a question and answer session by the series founder and curator Wendy Marube where we learnt why he called the collection Raising A Sun, why he needed to publish a book and more. You can see some of the discussions recorded below.
