Pa Gya! A Literary Festival 2021

The festival guests for Pa Gya! A Literary Festival 2021, set to run both in person and virtually in Accra, Ghana from October 15-17, have been announced.

Pa Gya! A Literary Festival was first hosted by the Writers Project of Ghana and the Goethe-Institut in 2017. Its name Pa Gya! comes from the Twi word meaning “to lift up” or “to strike flame” and it was aimed at igniting passion for the literary arts. After hosting writers from within Ghana and across the continent to much success; it was followed by another run in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The festival returns for a fifth year with scheduled events like a headline event with Prof Nii Adziri Wellington and Dr Sela Adjei, panel discussions and interviews, book launches, readings, workshops, and a special session with Africa Writes. We shall also learn who won the Abena Korantemaa Oral History Prize for 2021.

Just like in previous years, there is a stellar list of featured guests who are writers, poets, academics, public intellectuals, and loads more from Ghana and across the continent. Some of these are Akosua Hanson, Benjamin Kwakye, Christian Elongué, HRM King Dakolo, Iquo DianaAbasi, Kwame Brenya, Leila Aboulela, Lola Shoneyin, Mamle Kabu, Nadia Owusu, Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah, Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond, Natalia Molebatsi, Prince Kwasi Mensah, Rahim Munir, Richard Ali, Woelinam Kwame Dziewornu-Norvor, and Zukiswa Wanner.
