Nuruddin Farah, one of the most respected names in world writing today, is most famous for his novels. The Somali novelist has also written plays both for stage and radio, as well as short stories and essays. He has lived and taught in many countries like the United States, England, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Sudan, India, Uganda, Nigeria, and South Africa. He now lives in Cape Town, South Africa.
Farah’s first novel From A Crooked Rib was written when he was a student in India in 1968. Published in 1970, as the 80th novel in the Heinemann African Writers Series, the novel occupies a unique place in African fiction in its sympathetic portrayal of women. It closely follows the perspective of an orphaned woman and her coming of age which was surprising to the editors as it was written by a man.
The famed author will be celebrating this book at a special event at the new Cheche Bookshop and Café with Tom Odhiambo as his discussant as well as other special guests. The Cheche Bookshop and Café, is located in the same compound as the Nairobi Art Centre on Kauria Close, off Muthangari Road, Lavington.
