Ngugi Wa Thiong’o will be coming back to Kenya in June this year for a series of gigs to celebrate his first book Weep Not Child which was published in 1964. Weep Not, Child was written by the author under the pen name James Ngugi when he was a student at Makerere University.
It deals with the Mau Mau uprising and the bewildering dispossession of an entire people from their ancestral land.
There were initially plans for an celebration of Ngugi@50 by East African Educational Publishers last year. Unfortunately the plans seemed to have dragged on for a while and we will have make do with the events of this June. Its one year late but we’ll take it.
