Nathan Harris, Brandon Taylor on Prix Femina 2022 Dexieme Selection.

Nathan Harris and Brandon Taylor are on the dexieme selections of the Prix Femina 2022 announced on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

The Prix Femina is a French literary prize created by 22 writers for the magazine La Vie heureuse (today known as Femina) in 1904. It is decided each year by an exclusively female jury. They reward French-language works written in prose or verse, by both women and men.

Some of the previous winners of the award have been Léonora Miano, Marie Ndiaye among others. Abubakar Adam Ibrahim and Meryem Alaoui made the 2018 longlist while Nathacha Appanah and Mohamed Mbougar Sarr made the shortlist in 2021.

The jury for the 2022 Prix Femina Prize comprises Nathalie Azoulai, Évelyne Bloch-Dano, Claire Gallois, Anne-Marie Garat, Paula Jacques, Christine Jordis, Diane de Margerie, Scholastique Mukasonga, Mona Ozouf, Patricia Reznikov, Danièle Sallenave and Josyane Savigneau.

The jury revealed their 32 books in their dexieme selection with 16 from French writers and 16 from foreign entries on September 8. There were no writers of African descent in the French selection unlike in 2021 but there were two in the foreign section. They are;

  • La Douceur de l’eau, Nathan Harris (Philippe Rey)
  • Real life, Brandon Taylor (La Croisée) (translated by Héloïse Esquié)

The winner will be revealed at a ceremony at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, France on November 7.
