South African author Niq Mhlongo is next in line for the Long Story Short project with his story Gollywood Drama being read by theatre heavy weight Mbali Kgosidintsi. The reading will be happening at 532 Love Lane Street, Hammanskraal (Hammanskraal Community Library) on 25th April.
The Long Story Short Project aims at celebrating and elevating African writers and their work by producing free podcasts of African stories for all to enjoy with the stories curated by award-winning African literature star Yewande Omotoso. The first recording was done last month with author of Happiness is a Four Letter word Nozizwe Cynthia Jele‘s new short story “Tender” being read by TV actress, social activist and bookworm Hlubi Mboya.
This month’s podcast author Niq Mhlongo is the South African who has three books Dog Eat Dog, After Tears and Way Back Home. He is one of those authors who simply get better with every book and you can read my review of his latest book here. He is also one of the most fun authors on the African literature scene.

His work will be read by actress, playwright and poet Mbali Kgosidintsi. The University of Cape Town graduate has performed as a poet at South African national events including Urban Voices as part of poetry collective Rite 2 Speak,Then independently at Badilsha poetry exchange and The Poetry Africa festival. Her one-woman show ‘Tseleng The Baggage of Bags’,directed by Sara Matchett got nominated for a standard bank ovation award in 2010.
We look forward to hearing that podcast of one of our favourite African authors.
