The Lagos Art & Books Festival 2022, popularly known as Labaf, runs in venues in Lagos, Nigeria from November 14-20, 2022. The festival with the theme “Pathways to the Future” is dedicated to Bruce OnoBrakpeya.
The Lagos Book & Art Festival is an annual arts festival founded by the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), a Nigerian-based cultural organisation in 1999. They have been hosting activities like musical performances, book readings and launches, film screenings, a publishers’ forum, book and art exhibitions, panel discussions, symposiums, cultural exhibitions, and much more for the last twenty-three years.
Just like in previous years, festival goers will get to take part in book readings & conversations, visual arts creations and exhibitions, while seeing amazing performances in venues like Freedom Park, Goethe-Institut, Terra Kulture, and the Alliance Française/Mike Adenuga Centre from November 14. There will also be workshops on creating writing, book editing, and a variety of other topics with respected people in their fields for students and other youth.
This season is dedicated to Grand Bard of Visual Arts, Dr. Bruce Obomeyema Onobrakpeya, the decorated UNESCO Living Human Heritage, who clocked 90 on August 30, 2022. There will be also a keynote by Prof Okey Ndibe, and appearances by many other guests in the 6-day extravaganza of the arts.
It goes without saying that if you happen to be in Lagos around this time, we recommend you check out one of the oldest-running literary festivals on the continent. To check out the program in full, please click here.
