Yvonne Adhiambo Owour is having a red letter kind of year. On the literary side her debut novel is getting accolades right left and centre from prize. Yesterday the popular writer was given a rare nod by the Kenyan publishing fraternity with a shortlist of the Jomo Kenyatta Literary prize for 2015.
Away from the literature, Owuor was last weekend chosen to be the roving global ambassador by Kisumu County for its creative industries. If there is a Kenyan who is representing his or her county and country so well then this is she.
She will be one of the guests of the Open Book Festival that is opening in Cape Town starting from tomorrow in the South African “mother city.” She will be on a panel alongside Okey Ndibe, Saskia Goldschmidt and Nakhane Touré at the Meet & Read on 11 September. You can read more about her world view on this new interview conducted by Bwesigye Bwa Mwesigire.
