The Kaduna Book & Arts Festival 2022 is set to return to Kaduna, Nigeria from September 14-17, 2022.
As part of its centenary celebrations, the Nigerian state of Kaduna introduced a new literary event to its cultural calendar in 2017. The Kaduna Book & Arts Festival or Kabafest, headlined by award-winning author Leila Aboulela, featured over 50 writers, artists, actors, poets, and performers who shared their work with guests. Some of the guests for that first edition were Dami Ajayi, Dr. Abubakar Othman, Efe Paul Azino, Edify Yakusak, Hadiza Isma El-rufai, Hafsat Abubakar, Kadaria Ahmed, Kinna Likimani, Kola Tubosun, Lola Shoneyin, Samira Haruna Sanusi, Titilope Sonuga, Odafe Atogun, Saddiq Dzukogi, and Wana Udobang speak. The festival went on to run in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
The 2022 edition returns to Kaduna, as revealed by festival organisers, with the usual offerings you would expect at a literary extravaganza like book readings and launches, poetry readings, Booklogues, and Panel Discussions, as well as film, and an art fair. They are yet to announce their guests but what they have done is declare that this year’s festivities run from September 14-17.
They have also revealed that there will be KabaFest Book Grants worth 20,000 Naira for 200 students courtesy of the Kaduna state government; those who apply and get them can use them to make purchases at the festival store. It also allows them access to all events. Apply for the student book grant by clicking here.
