The first edition of the Kakamega Book Festival, brought to you by the Kakamega Book Club, runs in the Western Kenyan town on Saturday, May 21, 2022. The theme is “to celebrate books and their impact on our lives.”
The first book festival in the Kenyan Western hub that is Kakamega is set to be hosted this coming Saturday. The one-day event organized by the Kakamega Book Club is sponsored by Bungoma-based publisher Intercen Books as well as Egara Kabaji TV. Kakamega Book Club has been hosting events with readers over the last few months in Kakamega and now they have opted to do the next thing on that natural progression.
Egara Kabaji TV is the brainchild of Egara Kabaji, an academic who became famous in Kenya when he was the host of a radio show called “Books And Bookmen” in the 1990s. The show featured the works of books and their writers. Egara Kabaji TV is a YouTube channel that features both literary as well as socially uplifting content.
Those who attend will have an opportunity to participate in several literary activities including a book chat led by Prof. Egara Kabaji and Barack Wandera on the book All my friends have Issues by Amanda Anderson. Others include;
- Performances by local musicians
- Merry making/mbuzi choma
- Storytelling sessions around the bonfire
- Poetry performances by in-house poets and guest posts
- Pep talk: A Reflection on the concept of Love and Happiness by Prof Amuka.
- Showtime: songs and dance

The fair will be hosted at the Wanda Gardens along the Kakamega Mumia Highway. The events start at 10 am and end at dawn according to the poster. There is an entry price of Kshs500 to access this event.
