The Ghana International Book Fair 2022 runs at the National Theatre, Accra, Ghana from August 25-28, 2022. It’s theme is “Reforming The Book Industry For The Future Generation.”
The Ghana International Book Fair brings together local and international book industry players like publishers, editors, authors/ writers, designers, illustrators, printers, librarians, booksellers, students, teachers and a host of allied organisations, to showcase innovations that have occurred in the publishing industry, to share ideas, foster strong links, explore business opportunities and enhance the visibility and recognition of players in the book industry.
The 2022 edition of the fair was officially launched at a colourful event in Accra attended by Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Anette Chao García, Mexican ambassador to Ghana Enrique Escorza, UNESCO Ghana’s Carl Ampah and Abdourahamane Diallo, Accra Metropolitan Assembly CEO Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey among others. There was a keynote address by book fair chairman Asare Konadu Yamoah.
Those who attend the festival next week can expect the usual fare of publishers showcasing their authors’ work to the many who attend the free event targeted to both children and adults. There will also be panels featuring industry professions, book launches, events for children like “reading with champions” with Samia Nkrumah, a children’s reading show, and loads more.
One of the special events will be conferring Akosua Ofori-Mensah with the Personality of the year honour at the National Theatre on Friday, August. Ms Ofori-Menshah, the founder of Accra-based Sub Saharan Publishers, has served on the Ghana Book Publishers Association as the Honorary Secretary and Vice President. She was elected President of the Association from 2003-2005.
