The Etisalat Flash fiction Award 2016 opened for voting on November 7th, 2016.
Etisalat Prize for Literature is famous as its being the only Pan African one selecting the best debut novel from an African writer. The prize which is in its third year has been won by Noviolet Bulawayo (2014), Songeziwe Mahlangu (2015) and Fiston Mujila Mwanza (2016).
Apart from this prize, the smaller less known part of the prize is its flash fiction prize. Flash fiction in case this is a new thing to you is a style of fictional literature or fiction of extreme brevity. This story not exceeding 300 words is open to all writers of unpublished short stories of African citizenship but can be resident anywhere in the world.
The winner of the prize goes home with £1,000 cash prize and a high end device. The runner up gets home a £500 cash prize and a high end device. The top 50 stories will be published in an e-book compilation by okadabooks.com promoted online and via SMS and distributed at award ceremony. The winner of this prize is announced on March 2017 alongside the main award ceremony of the prize.
The prize entries were opened on Tuesday and you can now choose that which you think is the best really short story out of the continent this year.
