Heroe Book Fair

Covid-19: Heroe Book Fair moved to March 2021.

As a result of issues brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the forthcoming Heroe Book Fair has been moved to March 22-26, 2021.

In February, the Heroe Book Festival a new book bonanza set for Nakuru, named after the Kiswahili word for flamingo the bird most associated with the town, was announced. The event run by literary enthusiasts led by writer Lorna Likiza with support from the government of Nakuru County was to happen from July 23-25.

The festival was a big boost for the nascent writing community in the town in the Rift Valley that has long hankered after such activities. Unfortunately, as a result of the disruptions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic and actions of authorities to stop its spread, the community has been negatively affected. This is both for health reasons as well as for the economy which is reeling from the reduced activity.

With social distancing guidelines in place, it is very unlikely that large public gatherings can happen in the foreseeable future. For public safety, the team has made the decision to move the festival to March 2021 when hopefully the health situation is sufficient to run a public event.

We hope to see you at the festival in March next year. Inshallah.
