We all know the benefits of winning the Caine Prize for African literature. For one, you get to be feted in all the capitals around where they know that the prize exists (which are a handful – London, Nairobi, Lagos etc). You get to be spoken of in the same breath as Binyavanga Wainaina and Noviolet Bulawayo who have go on to become some of the most well known names in the African literature business. You also get to win a tidy sum of money too; 10,000 UK pounds. Whatever your currency on the continent that can’t be too bad.

So how do you go about getting into this big space? You have only 11 days for your story to be considered for the Caine Prize 2014 as the deadline is 31 January 2014.
